The European Gymnastics Championships will take place from 21 April to 2 May 2010 bringing a fantastic opportunity to see some of Europe's top gymnasts competing at the NIA in Birmingham. Gymnasts from up to 40 countries are expected to take part with more than 800 expected to compete in total. In addition, the junior events will act as qualifying for the first ever Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore later in the year. Following the success of the World Championships in London in 2009 we hope that this European event will be a fantastic event too.

However you don't just have to watch it, you can be part of it. Birmingham City Council recruits volunteers for many events throughout the year, last year more than 500 volunteers helped to make the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon a success and we couldn't have done it without them. We're looking for more of the same for the European Gymnastics Championships.

- Would you like to get involved in these fantastic events?

- Have you got a passion for sport?

- Would you like to be part of the success of another major event in Birmingham?

Whatever your reason, your city needs you! It's a chance to meet some great people, gain some valuable experience and be part of something special.

Some roles will need little or no experience while others may be better suited to people who have volunteered on previous events. Either way we're sure that we can find a role to suit you, with around 500 volunteers needed there's plenty of opportunities.

Volunteers must be 16 or over and available to work over the course of the two weeks of the event and for some specific roles on the days leading up to the event as well. You don't need to be available for every day, just as much as is possible. Every volunteer will receive kit to wear and will be given lunch. Full briefing will be provided to each volunteer for the role that is assigned to them. Organisations, charities and Scout and Girl Guide groups are welcome to volunteer as a group, as team work is essential to some of the roles and duties that we need fulfilled.

Its hard work, its rewarding and its worth it so if you're interested fill in the form below and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
