The European Union of Gymnastics (UEG)

The UEG counts 47 national member federations. It is a sports organisation, which reaches far beyond the borders of political Europe but nevertheless bears the idea of a united gymnastics nation.

As guarantor of interests of its more than 10 000 000 gymnasts, the UEG represents quite different facets of European gymnastics: from Olympic sports to gymnastics for all.

European gymnasts transmit their understanding of being together beyond the borders and set an example in community.

No other sports federation in Europe proposes such a diversity of offers as the European Union of Gymnastics.

One can find not only high-level sport in the four Olympic disciplines and the three non-Olympic disciplines, but also leisure sport with offers for all age groups, from toddlers to senior citizens.

No other discipline can be found with not only organised attractive international events, but also galas, general gymnastics festivals, youth festivals and gymnaestradas, where hundreds of thousands of athletes come together.

Gymnastics is an accessible and inclusive sport offering opportunities to all ability levels and ethnic groups within a range of controlled learning environments. It promotes an active and healthy lifestyle and is recognised as forming the basis for physical literacy by developing fundamental movement skills.

Interest in the sport has never been stronger. Hundreds of thousands of young gymnasts enjoy the sport in the school environment, take part in the recreational sessions offered at many leisure centres, and enjoy membership of British Gymnastics registered clubs that offer a complete development pathway from beginner through to Olympian.

Lottery Funded UK Sport

UK Sport is the Government agency responsible for maximising British success in the Olympic and Paralympic Games through investing in our most talented athletes. This involves working together with other sports bodies to deliver excellent results. To achieve this we target Lottery funding at athletes capable of delivering medal-winning performances

On 1 April 2006, UK Sport took on responsibility in the UK and England for the performance pathway – the period of an athlete’s career that takes them from the time when their talent is identified through to the Podium.

Through our Lottery funded Major Events programme, we coordinate and support plans to stage major sporting events in the UK over the next 20 years. This long term approach to planning ensures that each sport bids for events that fit in with their Performance Pathway programmes and that funding is in place to support the cost of staging the events.

UK Sport supports the UK’s top sportsmen and women, and those on the performance pathway, to train and compete against the best athletes in the world, by funding sports national governing bodies and direct to athletes through personal awards. We also distribute funds to sporting and other organisations to bid for and stage world class events in the UK.

Grants range from around £1,000 to support an individual athlete on a programme, to a four year award of over £8 million to a key Olympic sport.

BRMB - Made in Birmingham

Built in the Seventies and restored for 2010, BRMB has undergone a whole host of changes as we aim to rebuild a station that truly belongs to Birmingham.

BRMB is now home to many new and interesting characters entertaining Birmingham every day. The Jo Show wakes you up every morning with award winning Jo Russell – she’s won more awards than anyone else in commercial radio. Foxy & Giuliano are new to afternoons making your journey home from work more fun. Plus BRMB does it differently at 10pm with the return of Caroline Martin on The Sanctuary – it’s all talk for 3 hours and anything goes!

And have you noticed what we’ve done with the music? BRMB is still famous for playing the songs that you love right now, but see if you can spot some of the great songs from the 80’s/90’s and 00’s that we’re now playing too.

Sport plays a big part in the plans for 2010, and anything that happens in Birmingham you can bet that BRMB will be there.

Plus this year you can expect to see the return of some iconic events, the chance to win big cash prizes, and stunts that have made BRMB famous over the years.
